Easter With Microgreens

Creative Easter Ideas Using Microgreens and Seeds

Easter is the perfect time to celebrate renewal, color, and creativity—and microgreens and seeds can play a starring role in your festivities! Whether you’re looking to craft eco-friendly decorations, whip up vibrant dishes, or add a touch of nature to your celebrations, here are some fun ideas to inspire you.

1. Plantable Seed Bomb Easter Eggs or ‘Egg’ Pets.

  • What to Do: Create colorful seed bomb Easter eggs using recycled paper and seeds. These eco-friendly eggs can be hidden for a candy-free egg hunt or gifted as plantable treasures.
  • Tip: Use pollinator-friendly microgreen seeds like; Sunflowers, Basil, Cilantro or Radish seeds for a garden that blooms beautifully and supports local ecosystems.
  • How to Make: First, Soak recycled paper, blend into pulp. Next, mold into egg shapes. Let them air dry for 1-2 days. Then, make a small hole and fill the plantable eggs with whatever seeds you like! Finally, Place more recycled paper or tissue in the hole to seal the egg.
  • Other Ideas, mixing the seeds with the pulp while forming egg shapes could start the seeds germinating. These could be used as a fun “chia’ pet egg if left long enough to sprout or can be planted in the garden as well. Seeds like Alfalfa, Wheatgrass or Broccoli would be great options for this design.
  • Bonus: Encourage kids to plant their “eggs” after Easter for a fun gardening activity. Draw faces, shapes or color the new ‘Egg Pet’ for added fun!

2. Microgreen-Stuffed Deviled Eggs

  • Recipe Idea: Elevate classic deviled eggs by incorporating radish or amaranth microgreens for added flavor and a pop of color.
  • Ingredients: Hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, pepper, chopped microgreens (e.g., radish), and optional pickled onions.
  • Instructions: Mix yolks with other ingredients to create the filling. Spoon back into egg whites and garnish with fresh microgreens.
  • Tip: Use amaranth microgreens for a beautiful pink hue that complements the Easter theme.

3. Cheesy Microgreens Frittata

  • Perfect for Brunch: Bake a cheesy frittata featuring chopped microgreens like pea shoots or broccoli microgreens for a flavorful addition to your Easter spread. (Recipe here)
  • Recipe Overview: Whisk eggs with milk, cheese, and microgreens; bake until puffed and golden.
  • Tip: Pair with fresh fruit or a light salad for a balanced holiday meal.

4. Natural Food Dye from Microgreens

DIY Natural Food Dyes Found Here!

  • Create Vibrant Colors: Use microgreen-based dyes to color Easter treats or even eggs naturally. For example:
  • Beet Microgreens: Deep red
  • Red Cabbage Microgreens: Blue-purple
  • Pea Shoots: Bright green
  • Amaranth Microgreens: Pink-purple
  • How to Make Dye: Blend microgreens with water, strain the mixture, and use the liquid as dye for frosting, pasta dough, or boiled eggs.
  • Tip: Heat the dye slightly to intensify its color without compromising its natural vibrancy.

5. Eco-Friendly Easter Baskets

  • What to Include: Fill baskets with organic candies, seed packets or plantable eggs for planting, or small gifts like beeswax crayons and homemade ‘Egg pet’ toys.
  • Decorative Touch: Add fresh microgreens as edible “grass” that doubles as a garnish for meals later!
  • Tip: Use reusable fabric bags or baskets made of sustainable materials to reduce waste.

6. Microgreen Mac n’ Cheese Casserole

  • Comfort Food Twist: Add broccoli microgreens to a creamy mac n’ cheese casserole for an Easter dinner side dish that’s both nostalgic and nutritious.
  • Tip: Prepare ahead of time and freeze portions for easy meal prep during the busy holiday weekend.

7. DIY Easter Table Decor

  • Use live microgreen trays as centerpieces for your Easter table. Guests can snip fresh greens directly onto their plates!
  • Pair trays with pastel-colored plates and floral accents for an elegant spring vibe.
