This easy steak recipe lets the kids get involved in making a flavorful mustard seed crust that’s perfect for grilling. It’s a fun and tasty Father’s Day meal they can prepare with some supervision.
Ingredients
- 4 beef steaks (ribeye, strip steak or dad’s favorite cut)
- 1/4 cup olive oil or vegetable oil
- Mustard Seed Rub (recipe below)
Mustard Seed Rub
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard seeds
- 1 tablespoon arugula seeds
- 1 tablespoon radish seeds
- 2 teaspoons coriander seeds
- 2 tablespoons coarse kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Make the Mustard Seed Rub: In a dry skillet, have kids toast the mustard, arugula, radish, and coriander seeds for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Let cool completely.
- Using a ziplock bag, Let kids gently crush into a coarse powder using a spoon or rolling pin. OR Transfer seeds to a spice grinder to pulse into powder.
- In a bowl, let kids mix the ground seed powder with the salt, brown sugar, pepper, smoked paprika and garlic powder.
- Rub the steaks all over with the olive oil or vegetable oil.
- Have kids generously coat both sides of the steaks by pressing the mustard seed rub mixture onto the meat.
- Let the rubbed steaks rest for 30 minutes before grilling.
- Grill the steaks to dad’s desired doneness, flipping once halfway through cooking time.
